Vacation is at an End

This is going to sound super strange - but my vacation is over - and I'm kinda happy about it. Don't get me wrong, I've had a wooooonderful time soaking up the sun and catching up with old friends.  For those of you who don't know, I'm on Oahu, HI right now - and I use to live on the Big Island, so it was a bit like coming back to a long lost home.  But, I'm ready to go back to life again.  I'm ready to get back to nails, and the Fall weather up in Pennsylvania.  So I'm going to hang out with my Hula sisters this afternoon before catching the red eye back to the mainland and back to PA.  What can I say?  I'm excited!

I promise - more posts with happy beautiful nails coming at your way very very very soon :)

Oh Ps:  its been really cool having conversations with multiple friends who bring up my blog - and sometimes even go as far as to pull out their i-pad and pull up this site or my facebook to show how much "better" my nails are than such and such that they know.  A huge Mahalo (thank you) to my friends for believing in me :)  Its a great feeling, and its really kinda cool seeing that people follow my sites - even in Hawaii :)

Nail Diva: Dina

An oldie but a goodie :) I love when you come across a nail tech who has been in the industry for a long time and still LOVES their job.  That is just the kind of industry that this is :)  Dina is no exception to this rule.  She's been doing nails for over 25 years now and still loves loves loves her job!  Dina is in San Jose, CA and just recently moved to a new salon - which she is also loving.  Work keeps her super busy, so I didn't get much other info from her, but as always the pictures speak for themselves.  Please dont forget to visit her Facebook or her Nail Art Gallery for more photos :)  And apologies for this post being so picture heavy.  I just couldn't pick!  Love love love them all!

As for Diva Pirate - vacation is going well and it's already half way over!  Im just glad I could squeeze in a post in the middle here - I hate going long periods without blogging,  it seriously makes me sad!  Anways, October is right around the bend and I'll be back full force with more Nail Divas and lots of my own work :)  If anyone has a nail diva you want to nominate, please just use the contact form or the "submit your own nail art" form :)

Trinity Beauty by Tom Holcomb - My Feature

Hello everyone!

I'm excited to tell you today that Trinity Beauty - Tom Holcomb's Legacy Collection has shared my story as well as a set of sculptured pink and whites that I did on their Facebook Page.  So please please go check it out, like it, share it :)  I'd be super happy if you did - Its a huuuge honor.

As you know Tom Holcomb was one of the greats, and unfortunately passed away last year.  From that tragedy came Trinity Beauty - beginning with Tom Holcomb's Legacy Collection - which is a beautiful set of acrylics, apron, towel, sculpting brush, dappen dish - pretty much everything you need to do nails - and then they put everything into a gorgeous carrying case perfect for taking to competitions.  When I went to order this wonderful kit to support the cause, I ended up explaining that I was on a ship at the time - and that lead to me explaining my job and Trinity loved it and wanted to share it.  So here we are :)

My wonderful friend and roommate, Lacey Price, was kind enough to sit and let me do a set of nails as perfect as I wanted to do them.  It involved sculpting a pink base on the nail bed with Trinity's cover pink acrylic, and forming a perfect smile line (smile line = the area on your nail where the pink and white meet, creating a curve looking like a smile - one sign of a good tech is a nice clean smile line).  I applied nail forms and built out the white tip with white acrylic - no gluing on tips here!.  Finally I went back and added a mixture of clear and glitter around the smile line and capped it all with another small layer of clear acrylic.  File, buff, gel topcoat and voila - a beautiful set of nails!  She's so happy with them, and honestly I couldn't be happier either with how they turned out.  Sculpting nails onto forms is a bit different, and in some peoples opinions, quite a bit harder to do than putting acrylic onto tips- and I probably havent done a full set of them since I did my competition in Vo Tech school in 2003.  Anyway, I'm rambling as always, just look at the pretty pictures - but dont forget to go to the Facebook page too!  The extra two seconds you take to go and click like will bring me boundless amounts of happiness!

For the Non-Nail Techs - These are forms - stickers that are placed around and under the nails free edge in order to put product on top of the form and build out a longer nail free edge :)

Nail Diva: Igor J

*sigh of relief*  That's right - I'm finally back on land.  My 5 weeks of exile to sea away from all my nail goodies has FINALLY come to an end.  So Im at home right now in Florida, and getting back into the swing of doing nails.  So you'll be seeing some original work from me soon!  If you can't wait - Its on the Facebook page already though.

But now on to the important stuff - The featured nail tech of the day -

That's right ladies, today I have another amazing nail technician- and for once, the tech is male!  I don't know about you, but I've always been a believer that males do some of the best nails and hair in the industry - I have no idea why, but I don't think I've ever met a bad male cosmetologist.  It just doesn't happen.  Igor is no exception!  In fact, if anything, his work is flawless.  He is another artist that I could just stare at his work all day if I wanted to.  Igor works at Estetick Studio and is from Serbia.  His work is also currently being featured in a gallery exhibition in LA called "Nailed".  Please also check out his Facebook page and his Nail Art Gallery.  He has an amazing amount of photos for your viewing pleasure, but here are some for you to sample:

This nail takes my breath away - the talent it takes to sculpt a 3D flower like that - amazing.

Don't forget to enter the Give away and to like me on Facebook!

Nail Diva: Oli123

Alright lovelies!  I have a super short but super sweet post for you today.  So here's the basics:

Nail Art Gallery Username: Oli123
Ive been doing nails 16 years, I specialize in colored acrylic ,3-d and hand painted nail art
Name Olivia Gordon
Salon The Kru
Job Title Cosmetologist
City Lancaster
State/Province Ca
Country United States
I wanted to feature Oli because I think she has some seriously style.  Yes, she does a lot of the "duck feet" or "flared" nail style - which I've never been a fan of, but you can't deny - she has serious style.  But she doesn't just do duck feet, as you can see, she does some nice oval shaped nails and she even includes embedding personal pictures in the acrylic nails (see the pirate nails and the oval nails).  So even though duck feet nails aren't something that I would normally rock, I can certainly appreciate what she does!  So if you like what you see, please check out her nail art gallery! :)   And don't forget to enter my Give-away, and to take a minute to follow me on Google Friend connect!

Liebster Award

Hello Nail Divas!  This is going to be a bit of a weird post - I've been nominated for the Liebster award twice - so I'm going to do it all at once!  Natasha does Nails and Lozza Nailed It both Nominated me, and I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart (and nail polish bottles)  :) It means a lot!  Also they are both great bloggers, so PLEASE go check out their sites!

First off - what is the Liebster award?  It is an award that is awarded to new, up and coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers who deserve recognition and support to keep blogging.  The word Liebster is a German word that means dearest, sweetest, nicest, kindest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome.

And as any good award does, it comes with some rules:

1.  Each person nominated must post 11 things about themselves.
2.  They must answer 11 questions assigned by the person who nominated them.
3.  They must choose 11 new bloggers with <200 followers and tag them in their post
4.  They must create 11 new questions to ask the bloggers in #3
5.  The bloggers must be told that they've been nominated
6.  No tag backs :)

So... here we go!  11 Random things about me:
1.  Not only am I a licensed nail tech, but I'm also a Wildlife Biologist with a Bachelors Degree from Penn State Universty.
2.  I'm only 4'10", which makes me legally a midget even though I really don't look like one - but everyone loves that they're taller than me.
3.  I have an addiction to nail sculpting - I'd rather sculpt pretty nails from gel and acrylic with embedded colors and glitter than paint them with nailpolish any day.
4.  I lived in Hawaii for a year
5. Now I spend my time split between Florida, Pennsylvania, and the Gulf of Mexico.
6. I have over 800 days spent at sea.
7. In 2009 I was in a helicopter crash in Nigeria - no im not joking, and yes everyone was okay
8. I believe in living life to the fullest, taking chances, and being crazy.
9. I was the "manager" of my Cosmetology class, as well as President of the Cosmetology club.
10.  I was licensed to do nails at age 17 and hair at age 18.
11.  I placed 3rd in a nail art competition between Western PA's Vocational schools only 6 months after I began doing nails.

Okay - Now onto the questions I was asked (I'm going to do both Natasha does nails and Lozza Nailed It Questions)

First : Lozza Nailed It Questions
1.  What is your favorite nail art design that you've ever created?
Im a huge fan of my Halloween paisley design that I created last year - I'll be doing a full set of it this year and will be posting it soon.

2.  What is your go-to nailpolish at the moment?
Fingerpaint's sparkle top coat - I tend to wear sheer colors on my nails because they sometimes don't get filled for 5 weeks while im out on the ship.

3.  What is your biggest pet peeve/hate when it comes to nail art?
I'm not a huge fan of designs with too much going on.  If its just a bunch of lines and colors, i usually hate them.  And i also don't like people who don't take care of their cuticles - If you have bad cuticles, I wont follow your blog because it bothers me!

4.  How much did your most expensive nail polish cost?
For Nfu Oh 51, I paid $12... and i'd probably never do it again, but i do love that polish.

5.  Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging because I had left the nail industry for a couple years when I started working offshore on trips.  Long story short, I simply missed it - and one day plan to open up my own salon when I get sick of being out to sea all the time.  I figured it was best to be prepared.  Little Lady Luxury (my url) is going to be the name of my salon.

6.  Do you ever feel guilty about the nailpolish you own?
Yes and No.  I always tell myself that I'm investing in my future salon... so my spending is justified, but I do feel guilty.  I'm not a huge girly girl - but owning several hundred nail polishes definitely negates that fact.

7.  Do you hate Hard to Find polishes?
Sometimes I see a swatch on someones blog and fall in love with it, and then can't find it to buy, and yes that drives me nuts.  Like the clarin's nailpolish that everyone has dubbed "unicorn pee" - its like $67 on ebay - and im not spending that much on a bottle of nailpolish, not even if it was made of pure liquid platinum.  No way!

8.  Have you been nominated for a blog award before?
Nope!  Just this one twice :)  Which is super cool!

9.  Do you have any new tips for bloggers?
Network- comment on other blogs, email people, and post on your facebook, twitter, and pinterest.  The more you share, the more followers you'll get.  A few give-aways doesn't hurt either.  But most importantly, just have fun - Blogging shouldn't be work.

10.  What is your favorite fashion trend at the moment?
Its fall - so I'm really loving all the burgundy and burnt orange colors.  I can't wait to do some glitter nails to match all the cute clothes :)

11.  Do you have a nailpolish in your collection that you've never used?  If so- name it!
Um.... I have tons.  How horrible is that?  And I'm stuck at sea, so I can't even go through my collection and name a few.  I tend to buy polish in seasonal sets... so I have tons that I just never get to.  And like I said, im a sheer girl on my finger tips, so I really only do crazy nailpolish on my toes.  I do know I have OPI's neons sitting at home just calling my name.  *insert spooky voice*"MEEEGAN! USE ME!"

The 2nd set: Natasha Does Nails Questions:
1.  What holiday is your favorite?
Halloween, hands down.  I love everything about it!

2.  If you could switch lives with anyone, who would it be?
Tough questions.... and honestly, I don't think I'd switch with anyone.  I like my life!  But if you twist my arm - Nina Dobrev,  Hello Vampire Diaries!  I would play with Stephan and Damon all day.

3.  Breakfast lunch or dinner?
Breakfast for dinner :) French toast for sure!

4.  Describe yourself in one word:
Pirate  (the Johnny Depp kind, not the Somalia kind)

5.  Spring, summer, fall or winter? and why?
Fall - Because I like fireplaces, hot chocolate, boots, changing leaves, bonfires, and pumpkin beer.  Not too hot, not too cold.  What's not to love?  Oh and did I mention Holiday sets come out in the Fall?  YES!

6.  Team Edward or Team Jacob?
Meh... Team True Blood  - Don't get me wrong, I like Twilight, but I dont swoon over the movie characters.  But if we're talking in the book, I'm team Edward

7.  If you could live in any era, what era would it be?
the 20's.  Flappers and classy music all the way.

8.  What is something you could (or do) eat every day?
Fruit smoothies - i Looooooove them!

9.  Do you prefer snow or rain?
Snow - its pretty and not so messy (at first)

10.  Mani Pedi- do they need to match or do you switch it up?
I like matching mani pedis, but I don't think its necessary.  Pedi's can last up to a month, and who wants their nails to look the same that long?  Not me!

11.  How long have you been blogging?
Just over a year :)  With a few gaps due to some really really long, really close together deployments to sea without my nailpolish :(

Okay okay, thats WAY more than enough about me.  So here are the Blogs that I'm Nominating!  (and sorry i cheated, one has just over 200 followers... but i had a hard time finding 11 good blogs to nominate with LESS than 200 followers)

The Polished Mommy
One Nail to Rule them All
Tales of Knit and Nails
Adorned Beauty
Crafts After College
Luminous Nails
Dressed up Nails
365 Days of Nails

Now on to their questions to answer - Nominees, pay attention! :)

1.  How long have you been blogging?
2.  What is it that draws you to nail art/nails -aka why do you like doing nails so much?
3.  What is your favorite season and why?  (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer)
4.  What is your absolute favorite food?
5.  If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
6.  If you could request to meet one person ever, who would it be?
7.  What is your favorite nailpolish color?
8.  Do you wear "fake" nails at all or are your nails natural?
9.  Do you ever feel bad about how much  nailpolish/nail products you own?
10.  How much time a week do you spend on nails?
11.  What is your favorite holiday to do nail art for?

Wow, now that was a seriously long post.  Thanks to anyone who actually read to the bottom, i know it was a lot.  It was a serious honor to be nominated not once but twice - sorry it took so long for me to get to posting this!

Nail Diva: Teena

I'm chugging through my last week out to sea... 2 1/2 more days left.  Think I can do it? I sure hope so!  But I do have a treat for you today.  Nail Diva Teena!  On days like today where I need a little bit of glitter in my life, I go to her Nail Art Gallery and cheer myself up looking at all her glitter french nails.  They're seriously fantastic.  So if you're at all attracted to glitter like me, you're going to love her work.

Teena is a nail technician at Luminous Salon in Australia, and here is a little bit about how she got started:

"I decide to become a Nail Technician about one and half years ago, after having a go at doing my own nails, I found the process quiet interesting. I started searching the internet for new nail design ideas. This is when I discovered Sculptured nails, I thought they looked amazing and become interested in learning how to do them. I then decided to get my Nail Technician Certificate at Bellevue Beauty. I also have done some further training with Young Nails, who's products I also use."

In addition to her Nail Art Gallery and Facebook, please please check out her Blog.  I just took a look at it and its wonderful, but only has 3 followers.  :) So visit, and join on her GFC!  Its located the whole way at the bottom of the page, but its there!

Hope you enjoy her work!  I know i do :)

Ahhhhh Glitter :)  See, now I feel better!  - These are the kind of nails that I like to wear on myself.  I've always been a fan of the French tip style, but with lots and lots of glitter :)  What she does is absolutely beautiful.  Beyond words beautiful!

Nail Diva: Paulina Pastuszak

Again, proof that the nail community has some of the nicest people around in it.  Paulina Pastuszak  is the 2010 Munich World Champion in Nail Art - and was happy to agree to let me blog about her work.  Even more cool?  She's now my friend on Facebook :)  You know you're in an amazing industry when a World Champion is happy to befriend new techs!

As you can imagine - with a World Champion, I can't say enough amazing things about Paulina's work.  But She's not just a Champion either, Paulina is also the owner of Fanaberia Nail Salon and an instructor at Indigo Nails.  She's also been a seven time finalist in the Polish Championships for Nails.  Not only that, but she has written over one hundred articles for beauty-related publications in Poland. Her photos have also been published in Germany, Italy, Ukraine and USA. She has held demonstrations at the Beauty Forum, Beauty Vision and Les Nouvelles Esthetique & Spa trade fairs.  She's also an active member of the Tom Holcomb's Fan club, posting pictures of her work with Trinity Beauty's Legacy acrylic line (which I'm excited to go home and start working with also!).  What an accomplished and busy nail tech!  And what a humble, giving nail champion, to share her work and demonstrate how to do the amazing nails that she's perfected with the masses of nail techs who aspire to be just like her.  I hope she knows how much we all appreciate her hard work and networking :)

So please, check out her Nail Art Gallery and her webpage.  Enjoy the following pictures of her work - sorry its such a picture-heavy post, but I had a hard time narrowing down which photos to use.  They're all just so fantastic!
