I'm feeling a bit... green...

I've been saving this post for a while cause I wasn't entirely thrilled by it.  Luckily I saved it, because I can't think of a more appropriate time to post it.  I'm feeling green.  Really green.  I just found out that I'm going to be out to sea for over 7 weeks instead of my normal 5 week trip.  Honestly, the idea makes me feel a bit sick.  I'm behind on stocking up on posts too, so this blog may become a 1 post per week kind of blog until late January... which makes me incredibly sad because I really enjoy blogging.  I'll see if I have any time to squeeze out a few more nail designs before heading out to sea, but no guarantee.  Anyway, onto the nail. Take a look at it and I'll explain a bit at the end.
I did this at Halloween time trying to use Zombie Fest by China Glaze of the 2010 Halloween collection.  So, I used Zombie Fest as the base color.  Next I added a green french tip in Sally Hanson's Emerald City.  Last but not least I lightened it up with a yellow line around the smile line with a Stripe Rite striper.  Like I said, not one of my favorite designs, but definitely fitting for my mood.  Sooooo Stressed.

My Space

Today I just wanted to share with you  my nail space.  Yes, I do have a mini salon set up in my room.  So here it is.  I've got my nail station completely with UV lamp and a nice little adjustable light.  Behind the desk I have my shelves full of nail stuff.  Yes, that is a Matrix color swatch book so that I can do hair color.

My shelf full of gel, acrylic, polish remover, glitter, cuticle oil, nail tips, waxer, color, foil, and appointment book.
This is my nailpolish collection.  I feel like it looks a lot smaller than it really is.  Lots of choices for clients!
Two photos of my nail art paints.  Sooo many possibilities.

I have no idea why I decided to share my space with you, but I hope you like it.  Gotta love having your own special space.  This is mine :)

Rococo a-go-go mani

This was a design I did earlier this month on myself.  I started out with Orly's Rococo a-go-go as the base color and then stamped on the silver design using the BM212 plate with Konad silver polish.  All in all, simple, but pretty.  Rococo a-go-go is a really gorgeous color.  I pretty much stared at my nails all week just because the light reflects differently all the time.  Loved it.  Though I will say it wasn't an easy polish to take off, even with pure acetone.  Oh well, what's a little beauty without a little pain?

Green and Black Gel Tips

I'm really really happy with how these turned out.  These are gel nails using Light Elegance gel: clear, galaxy, and peacock colored gels.  Also, on the black tips I embedded some mylar glitter.  I can't thank Janice enough for letting me do something fun and crazy on her nails!  So here is the finished product.  Honestly, the pictures don't do them justice.  The glitter in real life is pretty much out of this world sparkly!

Black Tips with Rhinestones

So this was something that I really really really wanted to try for a few months now and just never got around to it until now.  A good friend of mine came over and let me do whatever I wanted with her nails, so I finally got my chance.  These are gel nails with black glitter tips and rhinestone accents embedded into the gel on the ring finger.  The rhinestones didn't turn out quite how I pictured them in my head, but I still really like it.  My only other gripe out this is that the tips I used show through the gel.  Go figure.  Even though I blended them really well, they're still there, bright as day.  I think its time to switch to clear tips... or stop being lazy and use forms.  Also, what you can't see in the picture is that the black tips are actually glitter, with small flecks of purple in it.  Its called Galaxy by Light Elegance.  Anyway, here they are!

So, lesson learned... rhinestones are hard to form into sweet shapes and buy clear tips.  But overall, I really like the nails, and my friend liked them too which is what really matters.  Im just nit-picky, always trying to get things 110% perfect.  Anyway, I hope you all like them!

1st Give Away Winner: Yoga Lover

So its finally here, the announcement of the Little Lady Luxury Give Away.  I'm pretty geeked honestly.  I've only been blogging for two months and I have 35 followers.  Maybe that doesn't sound like a lot, but I'm pretty happy.  I hope you're enjoying reading the blog as much as I am enjoying creating it!  So here's a picture of the final give away package.  I picked up some odds and ends along the way and decided to add to it.  The winner gets China Glaze's Seasons Sparkles, as well as a mini China Glaze christmas polish and top coat.  Of course Nfu-oh's 051.  Lastly, the winner gets KMS's blow dry spray.

So I'm sure you're wondering who is the winner right?  I used to randomly select a number between 1 and 40 (with double entries for tweeting/facebook that's how many entries were final). came up with #28, which corresponds to YogaLover!  Congrats!  I hope you enjoy your package!  Keep on following Diva Pirate, I've got lots of fun posts coming up!

1st Gel Stiletto

Today I decided I wanted to do some actual nails.  That's right, no nail polish, I actually practiced sculpting nails from scratch.  Since I was sculpting I decided, why not try out a stiletto?  So I got out my Light Elegance gel, my practice finger, my UV light, and my gel brushes.  I used the reverse application method to sculpt the nail bed portion of the nail first.  This allows you to go back and file the smile line into a super crisp smile (smile line is the portion between the flesh color and the purple).  I then added the purple glitter gel and loose glitter to the left hand side of the nail, and cured for 2 minutes.  Top the whole thing off with clear gel, and file into the perfect shape.  Lastly, apply the gel sealer for that amazing shine that lasts and lasts.

I'm pretty happy with the end result.  Its not perfect, but for a first try, I'm definitely headed in the right direction.  And seriously, who can argue with glitter?

Alright, quick post.  Im full of Red Lobster shrimp and fish and im not feeling up to this today.  Anyway, this was a really quick manicure.  Sally Hanson Black Diamond plus a Design FX decal of a black rose on some netting for the ring finger.  The decal isnt great... the last photo shoes how it puckers.... ugh.  oh well!

Design FX Pink Snake Skin Nail Stickers

I finally decided it was time to try out the Design FX nail stickers that came in this months NailPro Magazine and Nail Magazine.  Overall, I'd say the stickers are pretty cool, however I did have some issues with it puckering when being applied to the entire nail.  But I just rubbed the edges with one of my other nails and eventually the sticker laid down pretty well.  So for this one I put a full sticker on my ring finger and a triangle of the sticker onto my middle finger moon area.  I painted my nails with first with China Glaze's Cheers to you, and then with OPI's strawberry fields.   I then painted in the silver triangles on my moon area (again, China Glaze Cheers to you) and then edged it with a black striper from Stripe Rite.  Over-all, I like it.  The first picture is the end product.  The second picture is the stickers I used.  The third picture shows my pointer finger before I added the OPI strawberry fields.  The fourth picture is again another pic of the finished product.  Hope you like it!
Gotta say, I hate pink, but I love this!

Zoya Pulse

Sooo... Zoya did a buy 2 get 2 free deal.  So I bought 2, got 2 free, and then bought the last 2 of the Zoya Pulse collection.  I figured with Christmas time coming up, it would be a good idea to have lots and lots of pretty red polishes.  Okay, really, I just wanted more polishes and couldn't help myself.  Love them!
I'll have a few manicures coming up featuring these colors!  They're even prettier out of the bottle :)

My first try at easy One stroke painting

So, one stroke painting is a bit harder than I thought.  Everyone makes it look so easy!  I tried a really simple one to begin with.  Perhaps its the size of the nail that makes it hard,  i was doing decent on paper.  Anyway here it is.  Sorry its so picture heavy, it was a hard nail to capture.  The base coat is OPI  Not Like the movies, and then i used random acrylic paints.  The book is The Brushstroke Handbook by Maureen McNaughton.

again... this picture should be horizontal.  No idea why blogger keeps making it vertical.

Hope you enjoy!

Black Decorative Swirl

There's nothing I love more than a good fancy french manicure, or french twist if you will.  Above is the finished product, but I've included several steps of this process in picture form below.  I started out with a plain french tip.  Using the BM 218 stamping plate and black Konad stamping polish I stamped on the black and white leafy design.  Since my tip was longer than the stamp design, I added some extra black onto the bottom with Sally Hanson's Black Out.  I also added a Golden line around the smile line with Sinful Colors Flower Girl (picture one).  Next I simply added another golden strip between the stamp and the black polish that I added to the end of the tip (picture two).  Last, I extended the smile line to have a golden swirl coming off the left hand side (picture three).  Finish off with a top coat and you've got a really pretty french!

So what do you think?  Would you wear it?  I know I would!

Oh and PS to everyone who has entered the Give Away,  I've added a couple extra mystery items that will be announced when I announce the winner :)  If you haven't joined, its not too late.  The link for the give away is on the side bar.

Chromatic Misadventure Give-Away

Snowflake Pedi

Alright, as promised yesterday, my snowflake pedicure.  This turned out a heck of a lot better than that last manicure.  Thank goodness!

So for this pedicure I used China Glaze's Blue Years Eve from this years 2011 Holiday Collection.  The pictures don't do this color justice.  Seriously, its amazingly sparkly!  Then I simply stamped a white snowflake using Konad's White stamping polish and image plate SH 17.   The image plate isn't Konad or Bundle Monster, but I can't remember what it actually is.  Anyway, hope you like this!  It was something quick and easy!  I'll post something a little more fancy shmancy  tomorrow :)

Epic Fail

Okay, so this idea was way better in my head than it turned out.  I wanted to do a belated breast cancer awareness manicure using Zoya's dove, pink, and pink rhinestones.  Um.... this is how it turned out.  Ugh.  apologies ahead of time!

What a disaster right?
When I got home from running all my errands today, I sat down to do this manicure and realized that I didn't have a pink striper.  Probably because I hate pink.  The only pinks I have were bought so that clients would have SOME choice.  Anyway, I tried to be crafty by doing a scotch tape mani instead of a free-hand one.  Fail... definite fail.  It just wasn't what I wanted, and then I  kept bumping all my other nails trying to work the the tape.  So I said screw it, and just took a quick picture of the failure.  I didn't even clean up the cuticles, sorry guys.  On the bright side, my pedicure turned out awesome, so I'll show you that tomorrow.  *sigh*  I hate nail fails.

Lets Go Pitt

I don't know about you, but I love football.  I'm being a bit of a traitor here, I'm a Penn State fan.  However, I live in Pittsburgh and all my friends are Pitt fans, so I caved in and did some Pitt nails for the tailgate I went to this weekend.

I have no idea why that top photo loaded vertically... the picture definitely isnt vertical on my computer.  So apologize for the fact that you'll have to twist your head to see the manicure.  As usual, I did this manicure in a hurry.  I was waaaay behind Saturday morning after doing my roommates hair, my hair, and then filling my nails, so I went for a quick and easy french.  The blue tips were done with Orly's Sweet Peacock, and lined with my Sinful Colors gold striper.  For my thumbs I did a super quick water marble with sweet peacock and China Glaze Midnight Kiss.  Unfortunately my right thumb came out way better than my left thumb... which i tried to fix by double dipping.  Either way, I still think its kinda cool.  Lastly I painted "PITT" on my four fingers on my left hand with a blue striper and topped everything off with Seche Ultra - V UV topcoat.  You can't beat UV when you're in a rush!  :)  Until next time, happy polishing!

This trip at sea's Haul.  I got the Gems and Jewels for Zoya, as well as the smokes and mirrors collections.  that came with a few free products.  I also got LCN basic kit  + white + midnight rendezvous.   Im too tired to write, but i cant wait to try these out
