First Set of Gels

Picture
For years I've been an acylic only kind of girl. They were the first thing I learned, and I loved them, so I stuck with them. Silly, I know, but clearly this happens. As I've said before, I learned nails from my first job as a shampoo girl in a salon that also did nails, and this salon only did acrylics... and my Vo-tech didn't teach any of it really, unless you count videos. So my experience with gel nails is extremely limited. Up until today, all I had ever done was put a thin layer of gel over acrylics for my manager at the 3rd salon I worked at. So, you get it, gel nails - zero experience. Finally, I decided it was time this changed. Last night I sat up late and watched a few You tube videos by Young Nails Inc on how to do a full set of gel nails, just to make sure I remembered all the steps. And fancy that, You tube training actually worked. And to tell you the truth, I'm pleasantly surprised at how nice my nails turned out. Actually, that's a bit of an understatement, I'm pretty much enamored with them... staring anytime they catch the light. It's the little things that count right?

So for this first full set of gel's I wanted to go easy. I have clear Ibd building gel and a bunch of fun glitters, so that's exactly what I used. I decided that I'll leave gel smile lines for another day, so I simply faded some light blue glitter over the tip and partway up the nail bed, feathering the glitter into jagged spikes at the top. Then i added a second larger glitter just on the very tips. Finally I capped all of that with the clear, filed til they were nice and smooth, and then added a super thin layer of clear gel back over top. After using the cleanser to remove the tacky layer, they're incredibly smooth and super shiny. They're so shiny that I would love to top every polish, manicure, anything at all with clear gel. Anyways, I'm pretty impressed with myself, and I may convert to gels depending on how this set does with lifting (or hopefully lack-there-of). Guess we shall just have to wait and see. Below are two pictures showing the arch and c-curve of the nails. Not too bad for a first set. Anyone want a set so that I can practice some more?
